(2021) Acrylic on canvas, 11" x 14" Painted for the All My Relations art show - I decided to depict the relationship I had with wildlife as a child. Growing up in a small rural town in New Hampshire, the land my family and I lived on was rich in vegetation and wildlife, and I would spend as much time as I could outside. My favorite thing about our home was the berries. A field of blueberries burst into life every spring. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries grew on our land and we lived in their growth. Each summer, my family and I would venture out into the bushes and gather berries to bake into muffins or pies. This ritual brought my family together each season, and I’m honored to share the wonder and joy that these plants brought me every year. According to NASJA’s site, “‘All my relations’ is a phrase used by Indigenous people to describe their holistic world view of interconnection and oneness that deserves attention during these challenging times. It describes how to be connected to the community, ancestors, and descendants, but also the land, plants, animals, and spiritual creatures. It means to be conscious of the overlapping relationship one has with all that exists and allows you to exist.” In 2023, Growing Together was shown as part of Fledgling: Artists Under 30, a juried exhibition (juror Gabriel Sosa) at the New Hampshire Art Association in Portsmouth, NH. It granted me a free, one-year membership to NH Art Association. Prints available on INPRNT. Inquire if interested in purchasing the original.
